You can make a complaint about New York City jail conditions to the NYC Department of Correction (DOC).
What You Need
To report an issue that impacts an individual incarcerated person, you must provide the DOC facility name and the Book and Case number or the New York State ID (NYSID) number of the person in custody. You cannot be anonymous for this type of complaint.
Anonymous complaints are only accepted for sensitive and confidential matters. You must still provide the facility name in your complaint.

What Happens Next
DOC will provide status updates directly to you, usually within 14 days. No further information will be available through NYC311.
DOC will review and investigate the complaints. A staff member will discuss the complaint with the person in custody and provide the Office Constituent and Grievance Services with final determination. You can also check the status on the DOC website.
