The IDNYC card helps connect New Yorkers to services and programs.

Services include:

  • Entry into City buildings
  • Access to City services
  • Cultural institution memberships
  • Services for veterans

Discounts include:

  • Citywide entertainment discounts
  • Select health and fitness center discounts
  • Grocery discounts at select stores
  • Transportation discounts
  • Additional discounts for veterans

The IDNYC card can serve as your:

  • Health + Hospitals (H+H) patient ID card
  • Library card for all public libraries
  • Proof of identity to City agencies, schools, and police
  • Proof of identity for taking the High School Equivalency Exam

Many IDNYC benefit partners will honor cards that have expired after March 12, 2020.

You should contact IDNYC partners as the following may have changed:

  • Hours of operation
  • Access to benefits

The IDNYC card does not let you:

  • Drive
  • Buy alcohol or tobacco
  • Apply for Cash Assistance
  • Travel by airplane

The IDNYC card does not:

  • Confer immigration status
  • Provide work authorization
  • Provide proof of identity to obtain a driver's license or a non-driver State ID

IDNYC cardholders are eligible for free 1-year membership packages at more than 40 of the City's leading cultural institutions. It does not matter when you received your card. However, if you were a member of one of the cultural institutions anytime since January 1, 2014, you are not eligible for a free membership at that institution through IDNYC.

These institutions include:

  • World-class museums
  • Performing arts centers
  • Concert halls
  • Botanical gardens
  • Zoos

Membership benefits include:

  • Free admission
  • Access to special events
  • Discounts at museum shops

You must go to the Wildlife Conservation Society for membership to the:

  • Bronx Zoo
  • Central Park Zoo
  • Prospect Park Zoo
  • Queens Zoo
  • New York Aquarium

The Wildlife Conservation Society is located at the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo and New York Aquarium

You cannot sign up at any other location. When you join the Wildlife Conservation Society, you will receive membership to its four zoos and the aquarium.

You can sign up for your other memberships by:

  • Contacting the institutions you want to join
  • Visiting nyc.gov/IDNYC

The IDNYC card helps New Yorkers to open bank and credit union accounts.

Several New York City banks and credit unions accept IDNYC as a primary form of ID to open an account. Depending on the financial institution, you may be required to provide additional documentation.

This may include:

  • Proof of address
  • Social Security number
  • Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
  • A small initial deposit

Credit unions have additional membership requirements.

Visit nyc.gov/IDNYC for:

  • A list of participating banks and credit unions
  • Information on policies

The IDNYC card can help make New York's health care resources more accessible and efficient. 

As an IDNYC cardholder you will be able to: 

  • Integrate your IDNYC card with your NYC Health + Hospitals records to ensure smooth registration and check-in. Link your IDNYC card at all H+H hospitals, community health centers, and long term care facilities. This is NOT available at neighborhood clinics.
  • Access your the NYC Health Department vaccination records online using the new the NYC Health Department online Portal.

You can use your IDNYC card as your library card at all public libraries in the City.

To make it your library card, take your IDNYC card to a:

  • Librarian
  • Circulation desk clerk

Access to Services Provided by Small Business Services (SBS)

Veterans will have enhanced access to veteran-specific services at SBS.

These include:

  • Resume preparation
  • Job training and job placement services at Workforce 1
  • Veterans Entrepreneurship Program

Discounts Through the Queens Vets Program

Some businesses accept the IDNYC Veteran Designation as proof of veteran status. These businesses participate in the Queens Chamber of Commerce's Queens VETS Program.

Free Veterans Advantage Digital Plan

You can get one year of online access to exclusive military discounts. This is through the Veterans Advantage Digital Plan.

These include:

  • National retailers
  • Leading travel providers

You can register online for special savings when you receive your IDNYC card with the Veteran Designation.

This includes discounts on:

  • Amtrak
  • United
  • JetBlue
  • Greyhound
  • CVS
  • Office Depot
  • Foot Locker
  • Apple
  • Dell

Veterans Advantage Member Plan Discount

You can get a 1-year Veterans Advantage Member Plan at 50% off.

This plan offers other benefits, such as: 

  • The OurCAREPackage (insurance packages, travel and security help, financial planning).
  • A VetRewards Card to get retail discounts with printed Member Benefits Directory
  • 50% off cards for family members 
  • Access to the toll-free Benefits Hotline 

IDNYC cardholders with documented service-connected disabilities can get the Member Plan for free.
