An automated employment decision tool (AEDT) is a computer-based tool. It is used to screen job candidates or assess employees.
An AEDT helps with employment decisions by using:
- Machine learning
 - Statistical modeling
 - Data analytics
 - Artificial intelligence

Under NYC law, to use an AEDT, employers or employment agencies must:
- Make sure a bias audit was done before using it
 - Post a summary of the results of the bias audit on their website
 - Notify job candidates and employees that an AEDT will be used to assess them
 - Give instructions to request a reasonable accommodation
 - Post a notice about the type and source of the data used for the tool and data retention policy on their website
